About Michael DiResto

‚Äč

Passionate. Experienced. Conservative.  These are the qualities Michael DiResto will put to work representing the people of Louisiana’s 70th District – the place he has called home, and where he has raised three children with his wife Rachel, for more than twenty years.

Through more than two decades of working to make Baton Rouge a better place, Michael DiResto has earned a unique reputation as a thoughtful leader on public policy, an articulate communicator for conservative principles, a strategic problem-solver who gets results, and a passionate fighter for what he believes is right for Baton Rouge.

From his work as a leader in economic development policy, as a former Assistant Commissioner at the Division of Administration, as a Senior Advisor to the state Republican Party, and as Press Secretary for Congressman Richard Baker -- DiResto has more than 20 years of experience and firsthand knowledge of how the government works and, more importantly, how it doesn’t.

As such, DiResto’s goals include implementing conservative fiscal reforms to prioritize what’s important to the people, improving Baton Rouge’s transportation infrastructure, pushing for educational excellence, and fighting for pro-growth policies and expanded economic opportunity for our citizens.

His successes include playing a lead role in establishing CRISIS – or, Capital Region Industry for Sustainable Infrastructure Solutions – a business-led coalition that has successfully advocated for major congestion-relief projects.  And on the state budget, he has conducted detailed research on the problem of dedicated funding that hamstrings prioritized spending, developing specific proposals to increase budgetary flexibility and safeguard unprotected priorities like higher education.

In the community, DiResto has long served as a contributing writer for the Aloysius Alive newspaper, lector, and volunteer at St. Aloysius Catholic Church, is a former board member of Forum 35, a graduate of the Greater Baton Rouge Leadership program, and recipient of the Business Report’s Top Forty Under 40 award.

DiResto holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in English from the University of Dallas, and pursued doctoral studies at LSU where he taught freshman English.  DiResto is married to the former Rachel Walter of Hammond, and they have three children, Quentin, Ella, and Lucas.
